Education & training

Useful knowledge. Shared with care.

Understanding how scams work makes it easier to recognize a concern and talk about it. Scabbard helps communities and organizations turn information into practical awareness.

Conversations that help people feel prepared.

Courtney’s community presentations explore fraud warning signs, safer choices online and in person, and practical ways to reduce risk. The aim is to make these conversations easier for older adults, families, caregivers, and the professionals who support them.

Previous talks with residents at The Kensington Reston and Falcons Landing have covered the warning signs of fraud, how to reduce the risk, and how to talk about scams openly so the stigma goes away. Courtney has also presented elder fraud awareness to the Loudoun Senior Interest Network. Every group brings different questions; start by discussing what would be useful for yours.

Topics to explore together.

  • Recognizing scam approaches and common warning signs.
  • Making space to check a claim and ask questions.
  • Understanding digital privacy and public information.
  • Helping families and staff talk about fraud without stigma.
  • Building an organization’s awareness of fraud and privacy risks.

Build a more thoughtful research practice.

Scabbard also offers investigation and research methodology training. Discuss your team’s experience, the questions they research, and the skills they want to develop.

Public records, social media, and other open sources are part of Scabbard’s research work. Training topics, format, and scope can be discussed around your audience and goals.

Tell Courtney a little about your group.

Share who the session is for, the questions on their minds, and any timing or format you have in mind. That is enough to start discussing a presentation or training session.
